What we do

The NSW Sports Federation advocates for sport at every opportunity and in a range of mediums. The CEO represents the NSW sports industry through a range of committees and forums.

As part of the Australian State Sports Federation Alliance (ASSFA), the NSW Sports Federation also advocates our state sporting issues at a national level, and represents sport to Ministers and appointed panels such as the Independent Sport Panel.

Additionally, the NSW Sports Federation works with the media to increase the attention and recognition that sport is receiving, particularly at the grass roots level.

“It’s great to be represented on the big issues. Funding has been withdrawn in the past and the NSW Sports Federation helped to get it returned.”

The NSW Sports Federation provides relevant and affordable education for the sports industry in NSW. Courses are open to anyone who is interested, but have been designed with feedback from state sporting organisations.

Course prices start at just $50 per person and cheaper group rates are available for members. In addition to the above, courses can be tailored or created to meet an organisation’s needs, and our Education Coordinator is willing to travel to regional areas of NSW.

Additionally we offer Education for schools including Careers in Sport seminars and PASS/SLR Experience Days.

“Congratulations on the quality of the courses being run at the NSW Sports Federation. Several members of our staff, in a variety of roles have attended and all have reported back enthusiastically about the content and the manner in which the courses have been run.”

The NSW Sports Federation hosts the prestigious NSW Annual Sports Awards, recognising outstanding achievements in sport across 18 categories. The spectacular Awards gala dinner  is held in February each year, attracting  400-500 guests including the ‘who’s who’ of sport in NSW.

Additionally the NSW Sports Federation coordinates an ongoing Officials Recognition Scheme to recognise 24 NSW Officials in sport each year over four categories.

“The night was outstanding as it is one of the most unique awards nights acknowledging volunteers to the ‘who’s who’ of world sport. I doubt if there are many other awards ceremonies that encompass this range. The night recognised achievement but importantly provided a great sense of pride in our work in sport and what it does for individuals and the community.”

The NSW Sports Federation supports NSW sporting organisations to progress both as individual organisations and as an industry. To support organisational development, we coordinate mentoring and pro-bono work to assist particular sporting organisations to progress and develop.

To support industry development, the NSW Sports Federation acts as a Champion Coordinator for Game Plan 2012, which is the industry 5 year plan. We coordinate key projects under this plan, which sees the industry working together towards a better future for sport in NSW.

“The organising committee would like to thank you for your generous support as these events do not happen without people and businesses like yours. Thank you for your ongoing support… our meeting was very important and informative to me… we are taking [our sport] to new places.”
