Community sport volunteers honoured at the NSW Community Sports Awards ceremony

Sport NSW held the annual NSW Community Sports Awards in a virtual format on Wednesday, 18 November 2020. This was the first time the Awards have been hosted as a virtual event, due to the ongoing impacts of coronavirus.

The NSW Community Sports Awards recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions to community sport in NSW, which is largely carried out by a volunteer workforce.

Sport NSW Chairperson, Carolyn Campbell, congratulated the finalists and winners and also paid tribute to the selfless work of more than 500,000 people in NSW who voluntarily dedicate their time each year to make community sport the best it can be.

"The army of sports volunteers in NSW are the lifeblood that keeps community sport going, and we are delighted to recognise and acknowledge them for the hundreds of hours they have contributed over the past 12 months," said Ms Campbell.

"Despite a year where community sport has been interrupted because of coronavirus, sport remains at the heart of communities across NSW. Sport has a unique ability to bring people from different cultures and backgrounds together," added Ms Campbell.

The 2020 NSW Community Sports Awards named winners across ten annual categories, highlighting contributions made by officials, coaches, administrators, teams, clubs, events and Councils.

The Awards evening also celebrated 21 inspiring recipients of Distinguished Long Service Awards. These awards honoured individuals across a broad range of sports who have given exceptional service to their sport over a period of decades.
